Onglaze Enamels are used to decorate already glazed and fired surfaces and then fired in oxidation at a lower temperature to fuse them to the original glazed surfaces. Most Onglazes are opaque and are detectably raised from the surface of the initial glaze. Carrying media used for Onglazes are usually oils or varnishes, however, water based preparations such as our UGM can be used. Onglaze decorations can have poor resistance to abrasion and chemical attack, making them unsuitable for decorating functional ware.

Lustres :Apply in thin coats - if required thickly to achieve required affect apply two thin coats rather than one thick one. Do not shake the bottle or decant more than you need for the next 20 minutes. Brushes used exclusively for precious metals should be kept separate, clean and free from dust. After use they should be cleaned with thinners. To prepare the brush for painting, it should be dipped into the liquid and worked on the flat part of the glazed ceramic piece until it is saturated. The brush should then be passed lightly over the surface in order to remove excess liquid precious metal and the hairs brought to a fine point in the case of a lining brush, or to a smooth edge for a banding brush
